If you hold a full Medical Card, and have been discharged from an Accident and Emergency Department or a Public* Hospital Ward with a hospital prescription, your local McCartan’s Pharmacy can issue up to 7 days supply of your medication without the need to have it swapped onto a medical card prescription form by your GP immediately. This gives you time to get your prescription transcribed onto a medical card prescription by your GP. You must present the prescription within 24 hours of being discharged. The Medical Card item levy of €1 - €1.50 per item applies to this scheme.

*Prescriptions from Private Hospitals are not covered under this scheme but your local McCartan’s Pharmacist may be able to facilitate you.
